More News!!

Hey guys! (and gals!) this week I have a bit to write! So, like I promised this post will be bigger and more exciting. On the agenda I have districts, my steer, new graduation news, choral club news and something I wrote!

So last Saturday, I went to districts for a public speaking competition! As I mentioned in my last post, I won first at my local 4-H beef club so then I could proceed to districts. They were in Teepee Creek at the school. There were only two senior presentations, mine and one from our neighboring club. The Valhalla club (neighbour) beat me in the competition. I was told that I didn't win because I didn't summarize and they did. Had I summarized it I definitely would have one. Apparently my topic of Bovine Coccidiosis (Kok-sid-ee-oh-sis) was much more appropriate. Two of the judges came up to me afterwards and congratulated me and told me that next year I will win if I do the same thing but tack on a summary. Unfortunately, I am going to college next year and will not be participating again. As for the video? I might post one in from the competition :)

I did some work with my steer since my last post. He seems to lead better now that I have spent more time with him. I will try to get a picture of him up here at some point. :) He is getting really big, last time I measured him he weighed 921 pounds. (there is a measurement chart thing). That was less than a week ago. I tied him up the other day to feed our herd and when I went to let him off, i noticed my stance stick was on the ground, he had managed to somehow bend it!

For part of the decoration at my graduation, there is going to be an Eiffel Tower!! It's gonna look so cool! There are a bunch of people setting that up and my math teacher is figuring out all the measurements for them so we get to keep updated on what's going on with it :) the other day he was making a cardboard model :P Also, yesterday we had our meeting to find out who our MC's (masters of ceremony), people singing Oh! Canada, singing a performance, giving address to the teachers and parents and saying a blessing. I am singing Oh! Canada and I am super excited!! My friends are doing the performance, I originally wanted to but they are much better so Oh! Canada is good enough for me :) Can't wait! its only 2 1/2 months!! EEEEE!!! and my dress fits well. I was originally too big for it but I knew I could and would lose weight, and I have so now it fits pretty good! and my escort and I have worked things out. We wanted to take a grain truck but I don't think I would be able to get up into it : /  my dress is too big, and he said he didn't think he would be able to get one anyways, so we scrapped that idea! He is going to get corsages so its all settled :)

For choral club we are singing the Beatles "Blackbird" and our accompanist is coming next Friday I am really excited!

Speech Night!

Hey guys! So I am back a week later and I have some new news!  Today we had our speech night at 4-H and I think it went great! I did a presentation on Bovine Coccidiosis. I am thinking I might make a video presentation or maybe just do a post all about it instead. Haven't quite decided. Anyways, there was lots of competition for me tonight but I managed to pull through all of my nervousness and placed first!!! I am proud of myself and I received quite a few comments on how well I did, I hadn't thought I did that well. :) Now in a little while I will go to districts and compete against others.

I have not done anything with my steer since my last post but that will change now that speech night is over.

My grandparents came up from Red Deer this weekend :) I was so excited to see them you have no idea. When we lived in BC we lived within walking distance and I went to see them nearly everyday! Then we moved and then they moved even farther than we did! So now we hardly get to see them and it's very exciting when we do :) I also get to show Granny my grad dress which is very exciting!! :) Great last few days. Sorry its so short!!! next time it will be longer, I promise!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Good evening, everyone! So it has been a little while since I last posted. Here I go!

I hadn't worked with my steer in a while until the day before yesterday or I guess I should say Saturday. He was really good, better than before actually which was surprising but a nice surprise indeed.

During this week, I participated in the 30 Hour Famine. Basically, a group of people starve themselves for 30 hours to help raise awareness and to also get a better understanding of what it is like for people in 3rd world countries who have no choice but to deal with a similar hunger for days at a time. While we starved ourselves we decided to make a night of it and the group of 40+ people stayed overnight at the school. We put our hand prints on a flag and played games for about 4 hours. Then we watched a movie and went to bed. It was an amazing night and I had such a blast! Regardless of the time we hadn't eaten in, most of us didn't feel hunger until the lunch time of the next day, when all the other students were eating. I think I learned a lot more about how the people may feel, better than if someone had just told us how awful it would be. The money we raised is going toward a water pollution project in Africa.
The next day was Valentine's Day. It was sweet, seeing all the couples dressing nice for each other :) So, Happy Valentine's Day to all you single people, couples and even the widows. Hope you had a wonderful day celebrating the love you feel/felt for anyone in this world.

I gave a rose to my crush (He already knows I like him) and I was so worried I had embarrassed him but apparantly he was just caught off guard, which I am hoping is in the good sort of way lol I also wrote the card in French (he is trying to learn it) I really hope he liked it, and I sorta want him to say something about it on Tuesday when were back in school.

So since the 30 Hour Famine was the biggest event for me this week I have a poem I wrote months ago that I will share with y'all :)

Biological Desire

I feel it growing inside
The beast of all sensations
It rips at my insides
And my mouth waters
I taste my saliva
Craving something sweet
Watching the chalkboard
Dreaming of fruit and grains
I hear a rumbling from within
And cells fade from my mind
The wambling has begun.

ITS BIRTHDAY WEEK!

Hi Everyone! I want to start off this post with a big Happy Birthday to my Mommy! It was her birthday yesterday :) I love you so very much, Mom! You truly are the greatest person in my life, you gave me my life and I will always be in debt to you. Thank you for being my Idol, My Guardian and My Best Friend, I Love You.

So an update on how well my steer is learning! His name is Caramilk by the way :) I have been working with him and he is still testing me but that is alright because he is slowly accepting it. :D He has a natural stance which is also good! I think he will definitely will be ready by May. Other news with 4-H, our effective speaking competition is coming up. It will be on the 24th of February (yes, this month) I will be doing an Illustrated Talk (a speech with representations such as charts, posters or power points) I plan on making a video of mine, however, I am not sure if that will happen lol

So a couple days ago I got this terrible cold (which may be becoming strep throat *sad face* ) but today was Choral Club :(( which means I had to sing in front of people with a lousy throat and and inability to pronounce 'N's and 'M' s due to thoroughly plugged sinuses. :P but I still enjoyed myself because I am good friends with 3 of the other four people. There are only 5 of us but maybe that will change over time? Today, so that the teacher may get a sound for our voices, we sung "Chairs to Mend" (we sung it approx. 2 beats slower) I really enjoyed it :) Looking forward.

This poem I really want to know how you felt when you read it. I don't care if you understood it or not (most people I have shown it to do not) I just want to know how it makes you feel and what you think it could possibly be about? :D Please comment your answers!

Young Eyes

Her tears fall and ripple the ocean,
A soul of beauty did not change a thing,
A typhoon could have been a kinder way to go,

Rosy cheeks of forgiveness face Mother Nature,
Karma is in Her hands;  yet it is up to them,
Purity stained with vengeance,

Never before have these thoughts crossed,
Such a permeable substance,
The day is here, Karma makes its move

Just one slip can change so much,
Who knew one substance could change a being,
A new form is taken; there is no escape,

A flash here, a glint there,
Nectar of one's love stains the floor,
The pendulum swings the other way,

Shame has the strength to shine,
With a slice the fire disintegrates,
And the entire world drains away,

Her tears fall and ripple the ocean,
Her soul is relieved of all pain; and now,
Free from gripping chains, She earns her wings.

Steers Who Write Pitch Perfect Poems

Hey everyone! So this week has been somewhat normal haha so this post may be a bit shorter than usual, and then again it may not. We shall see! (by the way, I know the name of this post is lame but I couldn't think of anything else)

So yesterday I began breaking my 4-H steer. For all you city folk who may not know what 4-H is, it is a non-profit organisation that allows children and adults (12-25)  to experience how to look after a steer (castrated male cow) while aiming for it to gain weight. At the end of the program you sell the animal to a butcher. Some feel it may be cruel to allow children to keep these animals as pets then force them to be sold for meat. But the real meaning behind it is to teach them responsibility, understanding of the cattle industry and help them to see if they want to do something similar for a career. You may also have a cow-calf project or heifer project. There is also 4-H for many other things such as seeing-eye dogs, raising cattle dogs, rabbits, horses, sheep and I believe also llamas. (For More Information, Click Here >>> http://www.4-h-canada.ca/core/)

So I put a halter on my calf (this has not been the first time as he was a bottle-fed) and he has been testing me! Basically, when I try to pull this 700 lb animal in my direction, he just stands there until he gets tired of have pressure on his face. Some may assume it is very difficult but I beg to differ. It is hard work but as long as you always win, the animal settles down quickly. However, if you ever try this, the smaller and younger the animal the better. One, they are not as heavy so it is not as hard to pull and when they are young they are just as impressionable as a child. :) There will be more information as I continue working.

What else is new.... My school is starting a choral club! (i think I may have already said so) but I am super excited!!! it starts on Thursday!! lol I love to sing, I don't know if I am any good though...   I have actually been working on my voice a bit lately starting on Friday. I went on Youtube and found a man called Eric Arceneaux. I really like the exercises he gives in his videos and on his website he gives a free assessment on some concerns you may have with your voice. I think in the last couple of days my voice has slightly improved just following some videos and doing some exercises. Check him out!

So I have some poems I would like to put up and a movie I would also love to share so Here Goes!!

Never Fear

What to do when the sun shines through,
And no more you have the rain,
Would you hide in fear of a sunburn,
Or darken into a lovely, crisp shade?

Strength of Australia
Warm like the desert Sun
Your smile keeps on shining
Though pain and suffering has been your cause
You see the silver lining

 Pitch Perfect

This movie is about a college student who joins an acapella group and struggles to help them win in the championship. However, clashes with some personality with the group and a growing romance with the "enemy". It is very humorous and kept me entertained through out the whole show! I have become somewhat addicted to it and I watch it every other day or so. I also have a huge "movie star" crush on the male protagonist :P Greatest Show EVER!!

Guess Who? ME!

Happy New Year, even though it's February today :)
Well, I'm not going to lie. Forgot about my blog for a while *blush* SORRY!! I figured it wasn't even Christmas the last time I wrote so....UPDATE TIME!! Here I go, I had a great Christmas, I received more gifts than I sent (bonus!)  and I love all of it (as usual) A few highlights are, Heartland (Season 5), New beads, manga and a beautiful mirror!

Class Ring
Just before Christmas, my class ring came in!! I was so happy, its shiny and purple (or green depending on the light) and it is exactly what I hoped for! I think it may be somewhat too small but we'll see when the summer comes :)

I also received a conditional acceptance to Fairview College! I have been working hard at West County Animal Clinic and I now have more than enough volunteer hours! I also passed my math course at the end of October or beginning of November. I only had to complete the one unit and I passed with a 54% :D

I have just completed all of my exams during our exam break. I had to write Social, Biology and Chemistry (all at the grade 12 level). I feel really good about Biology, and good about Chemistry. The more I think of how I did in Social, the more I hope I passed with at least a 60%. I am sure I didn't do very well in the essay portion but hopefully the multiple choice will make up for it. I was extremely worried about Chemistry because I did not redo the course but I wanted to write the diploma exam again because I wanted better than a 55% in the course. Up until Saturday, I would have failed it. But there are a bunch of teachers in my school district that put together these all day sessions where you review the whole course. It was a humongous help! It was so nice to cover everything that I had done and to refresh all those little rules and formulae that I had forgotten about. We were also given about 40-80 old exam questions, per unit to work on! If you are offered the same thing, then I would certainly suggest going to it!

An All-Time Favourite!

It is a about a teenage girl (Hilary Duff) who loves to sing. She goes to a music program in Los Angeles but there is only one problem, she had to lie to get there. You follow her while she struggles through loss, obstacles and social drama. I love this movie because I love music, I think Hilary Duff is a good actress and it is a happy-ending type story. I love to watch it when I'm sad happy or just bored.  I always find it entertaining. Definitely falls under somewhat cheezy chick flicks! :P

Bonny 5216 Fuschia Pink
Also, I have an escort for grad now :) The only person I would have definitely said yes to. The Australian Auswegian :P and I have a dress :) heres a pic! (wish I looked like her!)

Starting to hear Jingle Bells

Hey Everyone! New news! So I got that call back, and I now have a job at West County Animal Hospital!! I am so excited to start! My boss told me to wear something I wouldn't mind getting blood or other-stuff-that-might-stain on. Little does she know my Mom was an RAHT (view last post to find the meaning) so I have many smocks to wear :) On Friday I went to see the new art gallery and library in town. It is the second largest art gallery in all of Alberta, Canada! It sort of smelled like paint :P but it was really neat! One of the displays there was a short clip that ran in a loop of a kitten trying to hang from a tree branch without falling off. The artist took the clip sideways though so it looked like the cat was being blown off the branch (NOTE: The kitten was not harmed in the making of the piece).

Today we went out a cut down a tree to put in our living room as a Christmas Tree! It is a beautiful pine tree. It is very hard to find "wild" trees that look nice in the area that I live in. We have a lot of swamp spruce which are very spindly! So tomorrow we will put on some Christmas music and sing and decorate our tree :) One tradition that we have is we always listen to "Country Heat Christmas" as our music while we decorate! This way we can all sing the songs together because they are burned in our minds :P Another tradition that we do is we always have a tall glass of mimosa (champagne and orange juice) on Christmas morning. It cleans out the guckiness and majorly lessens bad breath :) One more thing, we do not use stockings. They are too small and it is hard to put things in them. We have, what we call, Santa Sacks. They are about double the width of a stocking and the top opens wide so it is easy to put things in and take them out! What are some of your Christmas traditions?
